CLYW Scout vs Advance Scout

We’re getting closer to the release of the Scout! A small batch of them will be available for the first time at the North YoYo Contest in the Czech Republic this weekend, and we wanted to take a moment to give you a definitive rundown of the differences between the two models. Here are the specs for the two models:

The Advance Scout was a one-time only run of the original prototype version of the Scout. We really liked it, and it was really different from the final version in feel and play, and we decided to experiment a bit and release one batch of them.

The only difference you’ll see in the specs is that the production Scout is a gram lighter. Doesn’t seem like much, but in combination with the change in weight distribution it’s a large difference in how the return top plays.

Looking at the cup you can see that the inner ridge profile has changed…what looks like a shorter “double rim” on the Advance Scout has been pushed down and smoothed out even more on the Scout. This pushes the weight inwards a bit, and helps the Scout play even faster and more stable than the Advance Scout. The post has changed from flat to pointed, which is an aesthetic change only but hey…we thought it looked cool. 🙂

This is a great example of how subtle and nuanced return top design can be, and how the littlest things can make a big difference. Each of our return tops goes through so many tiny, almost unnoticeable revisions during the design process, and even moving the weight just a tiny bit can be the difference between a great return top and something that you flip on a Buy/Sell/Trade forum the same day you get it.

tl:dr – The Scout is faster, more stable, and lighter. Hope you enjoy it.
