2011 Canadian National Return Top Championship

The 2011 Canadian National Return Top Championship will be held at the Cardel Theatre in Calgary, Alberta on July 2nd, the day after Canada Day. This family-friendly event will bring yo-yoers from all over Canada to compete for prizes, glory, and the seed to represent Canada at the 2011 World Yo-Yo Contest in Orlando, Florida.

Last year’s event brought in over 40 contestants and 110 spectators. Jensen Kimmitt, the 2010 1A Canadian National Champ and YoYoFactory sponsored player, went on to take 1st place in 1A at the World Yo-Yo Contest.

Organized and coordinated by local non-profit Calgary yo-yoing Club, YORAD, the contest will feature divisions for all skill levels, from the absolute beginner to the seasoned professional. This year there will be a training area for people who are interested in learning to throw.

Categories for the event will be 1A Freestyle (Single yo-yoing) and Open Freestyle (all other yo-yoing styles – 2A, 3A, 4A or 5A), both with a 1 minute prelim and a 2 minute final. There will also be a sport ladder category (yo-yoing string tricks) for those who aren’t quite ready to do a freestyle yet.

If you can, try to plan to be in Calgary from Thursday to Sunday. We’ll have a lot of fun things planned to do aside from the contest. International players are welcome, how could you miss being in Canada on Canada Day?!
